Happy December!

We made it through Thanksgiving and Black Friday, Cyber Monday, a deluge of coupons and such for shopping during the holidays.

Now, we can take a breath and think about a plan of action for December.  If you are in the “giving” spirit, I would like to share a few ideas.

One thing is to never let the season overwhelm you, especially when it comes to giving.  This is the time of year when organizations are loudest for donations because they know it is a great time to get support for their programs.

Go where your heart leads.  It’s always a good idea to check an unknown charity to make sure your donated funds are used wisely.  Charity Navigator is a popular link providing information and rankings on companies and how they use the contributions received.

Wreaths Across America

This program is a beautiful thing!  We have personally been involved with WAA since 2007.  The mission is to remember our fallen veterans, honor those who serve, and teach your children the value of freedom.

Join our community outreach group, Sunshine and Lollipogs Community Outreach/WAA  and help us collect sponsorships for the 2019 year.  Add your group, family, or individual to our official Wreaths Across America local group.  Please go to our “Contact Us” Page and let us know you are interested in joining our group for this project.

If you would like to sponsor a wreath for 2018, the deadline is December 3, 2018.  Visit the official link for Wreaths Across America we included in this section and go to the Sponsor A Wreath Tab.  The form has a place for our group information you can include on your sponsorship form.

*Our Group ID TX0674

*Group Name: Sunshine and Lollipogs Community Outreach

*Location ID: TXDFWN

Mark your calendar for National Wreaths Across America Day, Saturday, December 15, 2018.   The wreath laying ceremonies are free and are held across the USA and overseas at national military cemeteries.  You can sponsor a wreath for $15.  You can also lay wreaths (no purchase required) when attending a ceremony in your area.

Our community outreach group for Wreaths Across America has adopted the Dallas Forth Worth National Military Cemetery as it’s group location.  With every 2 wreath sponsorships, we receive 1 free wreath which is sent to the Dallas Cemetery for laying on December 15th.

Salvation Army- Red Kettle

If you love throwing change or dollars in the red buckets from Salvation Army, we think it’s a very worthy cause.  Occasionally, we like to offer a cup of warm coffee to the bell ringer on really cold days -if a coffee shop is nearby.  Instant smiles created from the gracious and unexpecting bell ringer.  Often times, we actually give a couple of bucks  to the bell ringer for a soda or quick snack (for bell ringers in locations that have McDonalds).  It is truly amazing to see the smile and that person light up with happy.
